BLOOMINGTON - Students at Hill View School led a tour through their campus Thursday. Established in 2008 by Colton-based Advanced Education Services, the school reaches kindergarten through 12th-grade students who have severe learning disabilities or emotional problems.

"This is a program we wanted to get off the ground, and we finally did," said Josh Wyckoff, executive director. Hill View receives kids from local public school districts, with the goal to get them caught up on credits and return them to their home campuses.
Students may choose to earn their high school diploma through the school, which one did in February, said Assistant Principal Raffi Chaparian.
With a handful of students enrolled, the school can expand to an enrollment of 36, Chaparian said. In addition to subjects such as Algebra, History and Life Science, the school offers electives such as creative writing and music appreciation.
Students also can pick up life skills such as resume-building and home economics.

There is a swimming pool on the campus so the kids can learn water safety.
Brent Hollo, 14, led a leg of the tour that ended in the campus store, where kids can buy snacks, clothes and other items with campus currency earned through good behavior.
"I like to buy shampoo and stuff for my mom," Hollo said.
The school is certified by the California Department of Education Nonpublic School and Agencies Unit. Parents are welcome to inquire about the program, but school officials recommended that they contact their home district to ensure that the school is an appropriate place for their child.
